You may also find that you lose confidence when you are eating or smiling especially when you are in public.

Dental Implants to replace a Single Missing Tooth

Losing a tooth can be devastating. You can feel self-conscious and suffer a lack of self-esteem. Did you know that your tooth could be replaced quickly and easily with a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium screw that integrates perfectly into your gum tissue, just where the root of your tooth would sit. Here’s how it works:

  1. The screw will be surgically placed directly into your jaw by your dentist. Its shape and material are optimal for close contact and ultimately fusion with bone, providing maximum stability later on.
  2. Depending on the condition of your mouth and jawbone, the implant ‘abutment’ (the crown or bridge that fits onto the screw) may be added immediately after the screw is inserted, or sometimes it may be added at a later date. It will blend in perfectly with your natural teeth in colour and shape.
  3. Either way, there will be some healing time. The screw will slowly mesh with the bone, becoming a natural component of your jaw.

Your implant will look and feel exactly like a normal tooth: no one will ever know, and even you might forget! You will still be able to bite and chew normally, and the bone in your jaw will remain intact over time.

Dental Implants to replace Multiple Teeth

If you have lost multiple teeth, you may be wearing a denture or partial denture. This can be a real burden, causing embarrassment, discomfort and generally having a real negative impact on your quality of life. Did you know you don’t have to eat soft foods or wear dentures for the rest of your life? Implants are a viable and clinically proven alternative to missing teeth.

  1. Multiple teeth can be replaced with just a single implant. The implant screw can support a bridge of up to four teeth in a row, each stable and sturdy and guaranteed for life with good hygiene and maintenance.
  2. Depending on the volume of jawbone, a dental implant and abutments can be placed on the same day or over a period of months. The implants will look and feel exactly like your natural teeth.
  3. After a period of healing, your implants will be fully integrated and will look, feel and function just like natural teeth!

What is a dental implant?

It is a tiny screw or post that is made of titanium or titanium alloy. This metal is biocompatible. After the implant placement, the body sees it as natural tissues and responds to its presence by growing blood vessels and bone around the implant, fixing it securely in place. After a healing period of several weeks, a replacement crown is fixed to the implant, using an abutment: a connecting fixture.

Why get dental implants in Ealing?

Implants are the only tooth restoration method that replaces the root of the tooth as well as the crown. Because of this, implant-restored teeth have a much greater chewing power than bridges and dentures. This means you don't have to restrict yourself to a soft food diet, you can eat whatever you want, with confidence. And you don't have to miss out on the vital nutrition you get from chewy steaks and crunchy apples.

Implants are also more secure than other replacement methods as they don't rely on surrounding teeth (bridges) or suction to the gums (dentures) for their stability. Implants are fixed directly into the jawbone and are as stable as a natural tooth, so they won't slide around or fall out and embarrass you.

Dental implants provided at our dental practice are long-lasting: with proper care and maintenance they can last for 15 years, maybe even decades.

Implants also help to maintain the structure of the face. Because they encourage new bone growth, they can actually help to restore the jawbone, that may have dissolved after a tooth was lost.

Once a tooth is gone, the body believes that the jawbone is no longer needed there. This is because when opposing teeth tap against each other while we eat, this gives the jawbone the message that it is still needed. If one tooth goes, the jaw no longer receives those taps and so begins to resorb so the nutrients can be used elsewhere in the body. The jawbone can lose up to 25% in size and density in the first year after tooth loss alone, causing the face to sag.

Appropriate dental care from our experienced dentists in Ealing can give your face back its shape, giving you the confidence to smile again.
