Diagnosis

"I am a very nervous patient but Dr Bose made me feel very comfortable and was genuinely very kind and caring." - Mrs A.B.

The first signs of gum disease will be reddening and swelling of the gums and bleeding when brushing the teeth.

As gingivitis progresses into gum disease the attachment of the tooth to the bone is affected and a pocket will form between the tooth and the gum. Your dentist will use a special instrument to measure the depth of the pocket around the tooth. X-rays may also be taken which will show how much bone has been lost.

In late stages of the disease the teeth may become loose or even fall out and you may develop gum
abscesses.

Visit our prevention & maintenance page for more information on how you can help prevent gum disease.
